Bird Island and La Digue

Sat May 10
Day 15

More meetings and preparations,
And goodbye conversations,
Off to sail,
For many days,
Eager to leave the bussle of Mahe.
Not to miss the tuna factory,
Or music at nights.

A decision made,
As I noticed my negative attitude,
A realization,
Life is good, no reason to complain,
This solitude is good for my soul.
And 22 days will come in time,
No rush for the future,
I may miss out on the present.

A gentle ride,
Chevalier bay for the evening,
A quick swim,
Spaghetti dinner and wine,
Exercise on the trampolines,
And watching the stars from my hammock,
Reading tales of shark hunting.
And finally to sleep listening to waves crash against shore.

Sun May 11, Mothers Day
Day 16

Beautiful morning,
A swim to shore,
A run on a quiet empty beach,
Just before the sun could peak over the mountain,

Embracing every second of beauty,
As Mom will do on the other side of the world,
Life is too good to be sad to be apart,
When we are both so happy in our own worlds,
Living in the moment.

An 8 hour sail,
testing my patients,
Thinking,
Learning to relax,
Splitting my time between rotating activities,
Music in the sun,
Thinking
Watching the horizon
Exercise,
Thinking
Stretching,
Learning knots,
Writing thoughts,
A lot of thinking
Time passes,

Bird Island in the distance,
Suddenly I see why,
Thousands of bird,
Circling,
Talking,
Sharing food,
So many different circles,
Like a swarm of them,
bigger then the clouds,
Absolutely amazing,
Going down,
With the speed of the sun,
Dropping.

Leftovers,
Life conversation,
More writing,
Stars and sleep.

The Spinnaker

Monday May 12
Day ?
Morning rainbow
And oats for breakfast,
Short rain shower,
Off to shore,

An island boy,
Now a man with a wife and a child,
Managing this place
He has always called home.
Walking us through,
Egg laying ground,
They say six hundred and seventy thousand pairs,
Of sooty turns,
And thousand more varieties,
Telling stories of individual trees,
Hard for me to imagine his life,
So different.

Back to Erica,
And off on the rubber duck,
To survey the diving.
Home for lunch,
Music, exercise and a swim,
Scrubbing the duck.

A ride to shore,
To watch the birds,
As the circle
And cry
And come in from shore,
Again they set with the sun,
Finding a place to rest for the night.
Must be up to circle bright and early,
To find a mate,
Off to fish.
An unreal phenomenon,
SO loud and intense.
A beautiful sunset,
A nice dinner,
Talking politics and culture
And off to bed

THE NEXT DAY

Another sunrise,
Conservation conversations,
Off to the drop,
A well planned dive,
a steep wall,
Different,
A surface interval,
And another nice dive,
With thermal or halo-clines,
Cold Hazy water in spots,
Another safe dive complete
A beautiful new anchor,
Exercise,
A swim,
Finishing my book in the hammock,
A rainbow.

And again the birds,
Squawking louder as the sun falls beneath the sea,
Flying lower then yesterday,
Searching for a place to nest.

Freshly smoked tuna,
Wine
And a bit of chocolate,

Another day passed,
Learning to relax and find peace with myself,
And pleasure in the shared solitude we have,
Trying to stop my yearning for him,
Really embracing this magnificent place,
Knowing it wont be mine to explore forever.
And still wanting . . waiting
Wishing. . . .I had more chocolate,
And still I can't stop . . .
Counting the days.

Wed May 14th

Breakfast and coffee,
Off to shore for a visit,
Meet Esmerelda,
HE is the biggest tortoise in the world,

OFf to dive the wall again,
More current,
Same fish,
A small cave,
Nothing spectacular,

Afternoon exercise,
Laps,
Shore for sunset, drinks, dinner,
Learning of life here,
The past,
The Moucha
Erotics fire dances of long ago,
Unable to see,
A culture,
In general a lack of something in the Seychelleios.
Curious why.
A bird shit on my shoulders,
They say this is good luck
Back to Erica,
Feeling ready for a change,
And off to bed.

Thursday May 15th

Oh so this is where my basic daily poetry ended. Bird was an amazing experience, glad to have seen it and happy to move on. A 13 hour sail later we arrived in Parslin, the next morning we were off to La Digue, What a wonderful island.

La Digue

Bicycles rolling,
From a locals arms to a tourist exploration,
Friendly smiles,
Dreadlocks and fish everywhere,
Searching for a culture.
A mother and her two children,
Comfortable on one bike,
Logical transportation,
A young couple,
One pedals as the other sits,
Or even two friends,
Any age,
Big or small.

Absolutely outstanding beaches,
Of rocks and boulders coming from the sea,
Caves with light sparkling through,
An indescribable beauty.

Giant tortoises,
And luscious green everywhere.
And even horses.

A bicycle rented,
So I could see it all,
An inevitable fall,
A scratch to remember,
Peddling through lives,
More beautiful beaches,
With out a soul in sight.

I stopped at a shop,
In search of chocolate,
Not existent here,
A sketch pad and colors instead,
To occupy my mind,
And my attempt at artistic ability.

A week passing quickly,
I smile at each person,
Every soul I pass,
A hello,
In my language,
One that only some respond,
Usually in shock by my smile.

Reggae, music,
Pizza,
Fish and rice,
Searching for an identity,
A combination,
Of cultures and ideas,
Much like our own.

Finding peace in a park,
More long distant conversations,
Plans of logistics, love and desire.

Thankful to find appreciation,
In the tranquility,
And quiet,
And a bicycle,
Pedaling towards the sea.

May 24

Eight more Sunsets

Sitting on a rock,
Falling into the sea,
My heart asleep,
Nine thousand miles away,
Waves rhythmically remind me,
Waking me,
Splashing patience,
The swell too small to wash me,
Sun not strong enough to burn me
To make me feel reality
Counting islands, rocks and clouds,
As minutes hours and days slowly pass by.

You' re sleeping in the horizon,
I swim towards you,
But the current,
Like time is holding me back,
I'm swirling in an eddy at the base of this rock
But each sunset bringing me closer to you
When I close my eyes to sleep
I know soon the sun will rise
With you in my arms,
And we can dive into our new life together.

About Me

My photo
I love life and want to experience every second of it. I love Diving, and islands and travel. I graduated from CU Denver a few years ago with a Bachelor in Psychology. Then for a graduation present I went to an island with my mom and fell in love with the beauty. So I moved to the Virgin Islands for 8 months. Then to Maui for 6 months and then Roatan Honduras for the past 4 months. I met some amaxing beautiful people there and I became a dive instructor, YEAH. I have spent the last 5 months leading and teaching diving in Curacao. So now what . . . I am on my way on a sailing adventure in the Seychelles in Africa, we will be sailing to Madagasgar. And doing some once in a life time diving and exploration. Should be AMAZING. Who knows where I will go from there, or who with. I love my friends and family. I like to dance in the rain, love to cook, dive, swim, smile, drink for fun, be natural, take pictures, living life to the fullest every moment. Life is short and an adventure so enjoy.
